Following much publicity, heated social media commentary and some timely ‘communication’ from the Rotary Trust to both Auckland Council and the Local Board, the latter has agreed to fund the planting of the same number of plants, at Sanders Reserve, as those mown by contractors at the end of last year.

The Board has identified another area within Sanders Reserve where the planting can occur.

Whilst still upholding the actions it took in removing the plants, the Local Board has apologised to Conservation Volunteers New Zealand who oversaw the planting by local volunteers.

Auckland Council has also apologised and supports the new planting. The Trust is happy with this outcome as it restores both the planting numbers and the community ‘good faith’.
